It’s been about a month since the lockdown has been imposed, and it isn’t getting any easier.  This translates to longer days, even longer nights, over-strained eyes and even worse – salary cuts and unpaid leaves. However, it is about time we all stopped waiting for a better tomorrow, and started working for it instead!

What better way to begin than to find a side hustle that could earn you some extra bucks in return for the time, which we have in plenty right now? Here are a few ideas to kickstart your part-time career:

  1. Online tutor
  2. Virtual Assistant
  3. Paid surveys
  4. Transcriber or translator
  5. Sell your skills

1.) Online tutor

We have all got that one skill or subject which we tend to know a great deal about. It could be something like graphic design, data science, history, economics or it could even be languages or guitar or dance! There are tons of people out there who are attempting to learn a new skill too right now. Sites such as Udemy, Coursera, Skillshare, My Private Tutor, Bharat Tutors, etc., allow you to do the same with ease. If you have a way with kids, you could also check out sites such as Skooli or TutorMe, where you can teach little kids various skills!

Tutoring is a great way to connect with other people while being cooped at home. Tutoring is also said to be a great way to improve your own understanding of the skill while sharing your knowledge. Not to mention that it is a great way to add to your bank balance!

2.) Virtual Assistant

Being a virtual assistant means you basically provide administrative assistance online. It could be for businesses or individuals. You can easily find listings on websites such as Upwork, Freelancer, LinkedIn, etc. As a virtual assistant, you will be required to do tasks such as making or answering calls and emails, internet research, data entry, editing, bookkeeping, tech support, etc. The range of jobs varies based on the kind of employer you work for, and the more number of tasks you are assigned the more you can charge.

Becoming a virtual assistant is thus a great way to break the monotony of your daily job, by carrying out varied tasks through the day!

3.) Paid Surveys

If you are the kind of person who prefers to earn a little quick money, without putting in too much time or effort, then paid surveys are the way to go! It’s extremely simple. All you have to do is sign up on websites such as Swagbucks, InboxDollars, OpinionWorld, etc. Most of these sites rely on a point system which in turn converts to money, which you can then acquire as cash, or online through Paypal or other such payment mediums. Additionally, some of these sites also allow you to play games or watch videos and earn money as well!

An online survey is a smart, yet a lazy way to earn some money. However, we definitely recommend giving this a shot during your breaks from work, or even while you are mindlessly binge-watching your favorite television show!

4.) Transcriber or translator

Transcribing refers to converting audio into texts. If you have got a good grasp of a certain language and its accent, there are several businesses and people who require individuals who can transcribe it for them. Transcribe Me, Go Transcribe, Rev, etc. are great sites for you to explore for transcription. Or if you happen to be one of those lucky bilingual or multilingual individuals, you could also try translation! Some websites online pay you to translate text from one language to another. However, you do need to have a fairly good grasp of the language to do a good job of it. Worknhire, Upwork are again some sites that enable you to do some translation.

Do a little research and you are bound to find some great opportunities to earn good money from transcribing or translation. Being Indian more often than not, means we have at least two languages we are fluent in. So why not make some money off of it!

5.) Sell your skills

One way to sell your skill is to freelance, of course! There is a high demand for freelancers who work on a project basis, especially in the fields of content writing, graphic designing, video editors, website designing, and many more! Fivver and Freelancer are sites that allow you to sign up for free and find freelance gigs. Another interesting way to sell your skills is to actually sell your artwork or handmade products online. For example, you could make your own paintings, or greeting cards, posters, gift baskets, etc. and sell them for a good price. Amazon, Etsy, eBay are some great platforms for you to sell your work on.

Selling your very own products to someone who appreciates and values it gives you a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction like no other! It is a complete win-win situation!

To conclude, it’s important to remember to not lose hope during this period of lows. People all over the world are going through the same crisis, and we need to make the most of the time we have in a manner that suits us the best. Though things may seem cloudy right now, always remember that with time the sun will definitely shine again!
